Give Me Wings

“Who among us would not sign up to fellowship with a cauldron of crows; perhaps even a murder, a congress, or a horde.

And would we not pay a monthly dues to sit down to tea with a local bevy, cote, or dule of doves.

I would count myself rich if I might belong to a raft, a team, or a paddling of ducks.  Or just one of the mob of the emus.

I’d give an eye to be counted worthy of an unkindness of ravens or a wisdom of owls.  Shying away as I do from the flamboyance of flamingoes.

Give me an aerie of eagles, a bouquet of pheasants, a crèche and huddle of penguins; and, I’ll give you an ostentation of pea fowl, a covey of partridge, and a rout, flush, drift or battery of quail.  A fair trade at market value for sure.

Give me wings, an open sky or waterway, and endless bladders of air just below my skin.  My feathers and my eyes call me to glory.  Rise soul, climb aloft, glide, perch and touch down on an expanse - endless rest.  To find bliss we may need become more fowl than we had first believed.”
