Get out to the edges
every once in a while,
where the cinder eaters
dwell during their days
of ash and mourning.
Learn what it means
to metabolize your grief;
nourishing your soul on
that which touches that
which touches death.
It is sorrow that calcifies
the richness of wisdom’s
embers. Grab your hand-trowel
and coffee can. Fill it with
what is left when the timber of
life is burned into dust. Mix these
ashes into all there is. Not in shame,
but in knowing our life begins when
we are able to return.
