of some yonder forgotten melody;
and, the longing chords of yearning
from just beyond the body
soak into me -
a lap steel
whining it's pained
lament into my soul
into my shoes as
I walk the path
back in through
the woods of the red
shale foothills along
this run of the Delaware
that obscured his anguish
and filled him with ease.
His ashes are here
all among the lichen
and mosses that have
draped themselves on
the rocks and loam
of the earth-skin
