Moon Rays - a poem for Zoe

I looked for the strong
rays of the moon
the night we anointed
you with myrrh.

Even a soft glow would
have given me strength.
There was no moon -
there was no strength.

I wanted to tell you how
beautiful the moon is:
how she is full of energy
for the dark side
for the soft side.

I remember first seeing
your arms - fresh dandelion
stems moving - moving
about your sides.
You brought us such joy.

I wanted to walk with
you in the daffodil
fields by our first home,
teach you how to hold
a butterfly on your
finger, and let
you eat clover with
the rabbits.

The tea we would have had,
made with peppermint leaves
from our garden,
would have made you smile -
feeling its tingle and honeyed
sweetness in your mouth.

Hand in hand we would
have walked the sands
while the mother-waters
crashed on the beach and
the sun put itself to bed -
glowing ourselves
with a powerful peace
and cheer.

I want you to stay with us,
Zoe Alexandra,
and join our circle
as we taste the earth,
touch beauty, and dance through
separating pains.
